William Pierce Laughter
Son of John Gordon Laughter, Sr., and Carrie Kone Fisher was born on August 8, 1920, in Jackson County, Texas, and died on June 20, 1945, in Okinawa, Japan.
Island of Okinawa, Ryukyu Group 4 Marine Raider Batln, 4th Marines, 6th Marine Division, KIA. He fought through five combat zones from the South Pacific to Okinawa, received Purple Heart for wounds received 28 July 1944, second Purple Heart with Gold Star for wounds on Okinawa and awarded the Silver Star Medal posthumously. The President said in the citation: 'Corporal William P. Laughter, U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity while serving as Acting J Squad Leader in a platoon of Co. G, Second Battallon, Fourth Marines, Sixth Marine Division, in action against enemy Japanese forces on Okinawa, Ryukyu Islands, 20 June 1945.'
